Sunderland pop/rockers Lilliput have made waves on the North East of England coastal cities for some time now but for the rest of us, it's a stunning debut Midnight Daydream that introduces the six piece to the musical forefront.
To say that the band’s debut has been long awaited would be a huge understatement. Formed back in 2011 on the back of Jamie Gillings acoustic meanderings, the band have spent the past five years releasing, performing and developing their sound. Now fronted with the lead vocals of Joseph Collins and backed with a heap of carefully crafted pop songs the band boast a contemporary feel that echoes of 70s nostalgia and west coast feeling.
The band’s first output, a debut EP Who Knows Where The Time Goes? was released via Pop Sex LTD back in 2013 and was met with national praise. Shortly after this, five became six with the addition of Jordan Miller (keyboards & vocals) who appeared on the EP recordings.
Fast forward three years and their debut, Midnight Daydream, is finally here. The band travelled to Liverpool to team back up with colleague and friend Robert Whiteley (Whitewood Studios) this time as engineer and co-producer of the album. The result brings an album encompassing a variety of sub-genres and styles. An amalgamation of west coast rock and British pop, it nods to influences from CSNY to The Zombies, The Band to White Denim, Super Furry Animals to The Beach Boys.
With the departure of Jordan Miller (Keyboards) shortly after the albums completion sees the arrival of Carmen Green (Polarsets / former The Railway Club) in to the band. A multi-instrumentalist in her own right, Lilliput now stand with more potential than ever and are sure to break through with their heavy harmony sound in 2017.
